Presenting:
EVERY. DAMN. DAY.
Athlete Substance Use Awareness

We are presenting a sports-themed focus this year to highlight the issue of substance misuse in athletics, an issue which often begins in high school and college.
Our guest speaker, former NFL linebacker Jason Phillips, brings a powerful personal story to this discussion. A standout quarterback and safety at Waller High School, he continued his football career at TCU as a four-year starter at middle linebacker. Jason achieved legendary success in his college career by breaking TCU’s all-time record for tackles as a four-year starter, earning All-Mountain West 1st team or 2nd team each season, and getting selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL Draft. He spent 5 years in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, and Philadelphia Eagles, 5 years of battling the pressure of staying on the 53-man roster despite injury, pain, and a growing substance misuse problem. After his career, Jason developed a full-fledged substance use disorder like so many athletes, and he has recently opened up about his struggles and recovery. His journey serves as an important reminder of the challenges athletes face and the resilience, humility, and, most importantly, unwavering support required to overcome them.
